Admittedly, this band features a bizarre combination of musicians: an acoustic songwriter, a classically-trained cellist, a metal guitar shredder and a world beat percussionist. Together, though, Chris O'Brien and Cohorts churn out tight jams and infectious grooves that rise and fall without warning.
The band’s anything-but-traditional rhythm section is anchored by Patrick Jarvis on drums and congas, which accent Chris O’Brien’s percussive acoustic guitar riffs. Meanwhile, cellist Matthew Probst is free to pluck melodic bass lines one moment, then pick up a bow to trade screaming leads back and forth with electric guitarist Nick Barretta the next moment.
O’Brien’s voice is a distinct mixture of soulful blues and urgent clarity. His intensely personal lyrics range from vulnerable confessions to fearless messages of hope and healing. |
