Aaron Kerr is a graduate of Loyola University and is a native of Omaha, Nebraska. He has played cello for about 25 years in many classical, experimental, and rock bands. Arco 71 is his first solo release, and it represents all of his influences and styles that he likes to play. It is an unusual sound, and Aaron has un-learned many of the proper techniques drilled into him in school to come up with it. Although this seems to go against the grain, Aaron has received some nice rewards for his efforts. He was recently awarded the McKnight Foundation Fellowship, and has also received grants and commissions from the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, American Composers Forum, and Theater Mu and Decadance Productions. Besides starting out on his journey to support Arco 71, Aaron is also recording with the introspective rock group Thinland and collaborating with local labelmates The Sleeper Pins on Emperor Penguin Records.
