Josh Aran is from Minneapolis. He believes in the cultural integrity of a city to support its local artists, and a bigger city has the ability to support a variety of artistic scenes. That said, he rocks mostly the Midwest, both as a solo artist and with various incarnations of his band. He’s a favorite at all the cool venues in the Twin Cities and he gets out on tour from time to time – grassroots style like an independent artist should. He’s as comfortable in a local coffeehouse with an acoustic guitar and 20 people as he is onstage at a downtown club in front of 300 people on a Saturday night; and so is his band.
After earning degrees in English and Art History at a small liberal arts university in the Midwest, Josh returned to Minneapolis in 2000 and recorded his first album, Sun Up, a warm and loose acoustic album. In 2002, Josh met and teamed up with producer and drummer Justin Korhonen. Together, they recorded with a handful of musicians, engineers, and producers (including Alex Oana, Tom Herbers, and Erik Appelwick) to create Between Us There Arose Happiness. Released in 2003, Between Us… is an excellent album and continues to meet with critical acclaim.
In 2006, Josh's new album Water to Wash Water Away is about to be released. And it's gonna be good.
