Don Fitzwater

Don Fitzwater is a versatile performer with a repertoire that includes traditional folk and roots style tunes as well as the work of such diverse performers as the Carter Family, Townes Van Zandt, and Tom Waits. In particular, Don loves a good story song and even though he often finds himself drawn towards tales about the darker side of life, he is equally comfortable with the lighter side of things, too.

Don first started playing guitar and keyboards back in High School. He gigged around the midwest in assorted R&B bands as well as playing music in the Wisconsin-based acoustic music duo known as Woodenships in the early seventies.

He then relocated to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN) where he worked in professional theater for a decade and a half. Followed by more than a decade working in the computer industry as a systems analyst and consultant. Now he's back to his music and loving it!

His style is very eclectic and includes elements from folk, acoustic rock, blues, calypso, country and Tin Pan Alley novelty songs. His influences include: Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Son House, Bob Brozman and Norman Blake. Don is also very heavily into resophonic guitars and is one of the organizers of the Twin Cities Resophonic Guitar Festival held each year in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
