Matt Patrick

Matt Patrick has been an incredibly busy musician in the Twin Cities for many years. He has an extensive list of bands he's played and recorded with including the well known Minneapolis-based folk favorite pegtop. Matt has been the bass player and background vocalist for pegtop for over six years and has produced several of their albums including Counting Tree which had a very favorable review in a recent issue of the internationally distributed magazine; CCM Magazine.

As a songwriter himself, Matt decided to record his first solo CD titled Change. In four months he put together an incredible musical journey in this freshman effort mixed by Tom Herbers (The Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, The Honeydogs, Vanessa Williams, etc). Some of the musicians on this album were; Adam Levy of the nationally recognized band The Honeydogs, Randy Broughten (Gear Daddies, Trailer Trash) on pedal steel, Jeremy Ylvisaker, Bruce Balgaard, and Chris DeWan and many more.

Some of his biggest influences are Daniel Lanois, Wilco, The Honeydogs and Emmylou Harris. His lyrics are clever, honest and seem to come straight from the depths of his soul.

Musically, Matt has been a multi-instrumentalist since he was a child starting with piano. He picked up the guitar in 5th grade, which led him to bass guitar, mandolin, pedal steel, Hammond organ, accordion and pretty much whatever instrument is set in front of him. This skill, joined together with his knack for songwriting, is a beautiful combination.

Aside from playing his own music, Matt has been a hired instrumentalist and vocalist for tv and radio commercials as well as being hired to play and/or sing for many local bands, churches and studio recordings. Matt also owns and operates yellowbelly studio where he has produced albums for Sarah Notley, pegtop, Jason Gay, and many others.
