j eastman

j eastman is primarily, and reluctantly, a one-man band. Originally starting writing music as a joke, for distribution between friends, this hobby very quickly became an all consuming project.
In the mid-1990's, j eastman started performing in and around San Diego, Ca. While living in San Diego, j eastman played guitar for the acoustic punk band, The Mellows, and frequently sat in with John Cougar Concentration Camp and Tiltwheel. j eastman also recorded with Phoenix, Az band Somebodies Mother, winning accolades from fellow power pop legends Zen Lunatics. However, regular Friday night bookings as a solo artist at the famed Innerchange Coffee House in Pacific Beach, Ca very quickly led to disillusionment, due to low self-esteem mixed with a paint sniffing problem.....eventually, and regrettably, he dropped out of the So Cal music scene.

In 1999, j eastman put together a three piece band in central Minnesota, and rehearsed songs for an upcoming record. Shortly after rehearsals he was booked into such fine Minneapolis music establishments as the Fine Line Cafe and the 7th Street Entry, however the band imploded shortly after the original recording of his first full length titled Bored Out of My Skull, and ended up cancelling all bookings and scrapping the album.

j eastman then purchased his own recording equipment, and completed the CD in the comforts of his basement, and the resulting album, Bored Out of My Skull: The Basement Tapes limped along, eventually selling out in his local community, playing shows in local coffee houses, including Karl's Coffee in Morris, as well as Barringer's in Fergus Falls.

After completing his first full lenth, he continued to manage his little label, Farm League Records, recording and producing various CD's for regional artists, as well as providing his talents as a studio musician. He continued performing by sitting in with regional acts, and providing his talents to the various bar bands that would venture far enough north.

In 2001, j eastman contributed a song for the Mild7 compilation titled Songs We Learned In Texas, a benefit for HOPE (Homeless and Orphaned Pets Endevour) and in 2003 his song We're Going Out was picked by Karyn Rachtman (music director for Get Shorty, Pulp Fiction, etc) to appear in the lo-budget, straight to video movie titled Getting Hal, starring Brad Rowe and Brian Doyle-Murray.

j eastman is currently writing and recording his follow-up, due to be released in 2005. Starting in Spring 2005, he will be appearing in various venues in the Minneapolis metropolitan area.

His doctor has recently given him a clean bill of health.
