Electric Rock Blues Extroidinaire.
Former guitarist of Howlin Wolf, Syl Johnson, & Muddy Waters. Markiss is One if not the King of Minneapolis' Electric R&B/ Blues/Reggae Guitarist's. Markiss gained a world renown reputation having shared the stage with BB KIng, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Kinsey Report, Ivan Neville,Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Buddy Miles, and Judy Mowatt ( Bob Marley's I Threes) to only name a few. Born and raised in Chicago and having risen the ranks as one of Chicago's best lead Blues Guitarist and tour musical director for Memphis Soul Legend AL Green . Markiss was recruited by Ipso Facto to Minneapolis in the late 80's. After relocating to Minneapolis in 1988 Markiss won the Best New Band Award by the Minnesota Black Musician's Association his first year in Minneapolis with his Markiss & Shades of Color Band. He was also nominated for best R&B/Blues Band for four year running.
Markiss' blistering sound of Blues, R&B,and Reggae is an explosive and exciting sound that is short of addictive. Presently working as a Solo performer, producer, and musical director, Markiss supports such Minneapolis acts as Mojo Roots, Maroons, IRAS, Shauntae and harmonica sensation Shakey Jake Neuman.Markiss and theGlorious Vagabonds can also be seen around town & features Markiss' mix of Jazz, R&B, Blues and Reggae style.
